Classic question! When we formed the band in high school, we thought about naming the band something nature-y since this project sounded folky and acoustic. We considered the name "Poison Oak", but thought that sounded too hard core. That made Luke think of the Bright Eyes song "Poison Oak". The first line of that songs is "poison oak, some boyhood bravery". We fell in love with what those words describe in that song. Being child-like and somewhat ignorant, yet courageous. Later in the song the character is brave enough to run away from home, but not brave enough to stay and face the issues right in front of them. Courage and cowardice wrapped up into one. On some level, we can all identify with that.

What does your song-writing process look like?
It depends on the song. It usually starts with Luke writing lyrics all over the place. In journals, on napkins, in phone/computer notes, etc. Those lyrics inspire a riff or melody (or sometimes a riff or melody inspire the lyrics) and the seed of a song is born. Then Luke takes this idea to Shane and they flesh it out together.
